School-to-Career has its roots in the Massachusetts Education Reform Act of 1993 and the Federal School-to-Work Opportunities Act of 1994. Today, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) sustains the statewide School-to-Career system through an initiative known as Connecting Activities. In order to carry out School-to-Career policies and programming, local School-to-Career Partnerships have been formed in collaboration with the 16 workforce investment boards (WIB/s) across Massachusetts. River East School-to-Career, Inc. is a duly recognized and authorized local partnership under the area WIB known as the Regional Employment Board of Hampden County.
The River East Partnership Director works with school-based staff to share resources and to coordinate School-to-Career events and programs. Career Facilitators are employed by the member school districts and work closely with students, administrators, guidance counselors, and teachers on career development activities. They also represent the program to businesses and organizations where their students are placed in internships, as well as work to recruit new businesses and organizations into our programs.
